Alpha Bites #005

As Randi Zuckerberg so accurately tweeted, “Spent the week inspired by hundreds of people building the future only to end the week finding ourselves catapulted decades back in the past.” Needless to say, we have all felt the heavy weight of the Supreme Court’s decision weigh on our minds and hearts this week. But seeing how the crypto community has quickly assembled and leveraged NFTs, DAOs, and cryptocurrency to provide and distribute funds to vetted resources for women throughout the United States, who have been stripped of their basic human rights, is incredibly powerful. This shows that the web3 community, whilst operating in a digital economy, is always tied together by a common thread: our humanity. This week’s web3 recap is all about how you, too, can get involved and contribute to change.

4 Projects to Know About: that are moving the needle

  • ChoiceDAO - Coordinating community and capital to support reproductive access

  • Clutch Wallet - Basic Human Rights Fundraiser

  • Lens Protocol - A Web3 native way to build a better social media

  • ComputerCowgirls - Raising Funds for Abortion Access, 100% of primary and secondary sales donated

3 Terms to Know: to impress the in-laws at the family BBQ

  • Primary Sales: the sales between the creator of an NFT project and the collector. So if you, as a collector, go to mint an NFT, that money goes to the project you bought.

  • Secondary Sales: NFT royalties that occur in a marketplace (like on OpenSea) after the original sale. Typically, creators of an NFT project get between a 5-10% royalty on secondary sales. So every time someone else buys or sells, the creator is compensated for their work.

  • BUIDL: Build useful stuff. When crypto is dipping, building useful stuff proves that it’s valuable. Ex: Eth is crashing, we need more developers to BUIDL. You might also hear this Bear Market currently referred to as a “Builders Market.” We definitely think so!
